Za'atar Spice, a Middle Eastern Seasoning

Za'atar will instantly add a wonderful Middle-Eastern flavor to any dish.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/4 cup dried thyme
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds lightly toasted
  • 2 tbsp sumac
  • 1 tbsp sea salt small grain

Instructions
 

  • In a small pan, slightly toast sesame seeds until fragrant. (continually stir as it will burn rather quickly)
  • In a spice grinder, mortar, or mini chopper mix toasted sesame seeds with the remain ingredients. Pulse several times (or pound, if using a mortar & pestle) to incorporate the spices together.
  • Makes approx. 3/4 cup of spice. Store in a cool dry place
